Impure Water Consuming plenty of pure clean water is vital to good health. However unfortunately, primarily due to the widespread use of toxic petrochemicals during this past century, much of the fresh water on the surface of the planet has been polluted. Many cities also add harmful chemicals such as sodium fluoride and chlorine to their water supplies. Although it is not widely known, the truth is that sodium fluoride is a powerful toxin, and is even used as the main ingredient in many rat poisons. Drinking chlorinated water on a regular basis can upset the body’s natural gut flora, as chlorine kills friendly bacteria. The consumption of chlorinated drinking water can also interfere with the body’s ability to absorb and utilize iodine, an essential mineral in which many people are already deficient. Despite their widespread use, substances such as sodium fluoride and chlorine are both potentially harmful to our bodies and our health, and as such, they have absolutely no place in our drinking water. Reports have even been circulating recently stating that due to the recycling of household waste water and the common practice of flushing unused medications down the toilets in hospitals, municipal water supplies in a number of regions in the US now contain trace amounts of pharmaceutical drugs, making such water unfit for human consumption. What this all means is that it is becoming increasingly difficult in these days to obtain pure, uncontaminated water for drinking, especially from municipal supplies. As a result, it’s best to avoid drinking most city water straight from the tap. It’s also worth noting that contaminants in water can also enter our bodies via the skin, so we should bear this in mind with regards to the quality of water used when showering or bathing. For this reason, many people choose to install water filters on their shower heads. One of the most important steps any of us can take in this day and age in terms of our health is to become more aware of the source and quality of our drinking water. As your awareness of the quality of the water you are consuming increases, you may want to consider upgrading the source of your drinking water by switching to drinking filtered water, high quality bottled water, distilled water, reverse osmosis water, or perhaps ultimately, fresh, clean spring water gathered by your own hands from a pristine spring.
